I just last week received a set of tires from Dennis Kirk for $361.98 vs the $305.98 they're listed for now. What a piss-off!

Update: I emailed Dennis Kirk regarding the price differential and within 20 minutes they credited my card back for the difference. What a pleasant surprise! Thanks for posting the prices Jeff :-)

Thanks for doing the homework. Yesterday I purchased a used tire machine to make mounting a whole lot easier and new rubber will be on by next week.

I think the GL1500 E3s are BIAS PLY.  Correct if I am wrong!

Chuck, you are absolutely correct!
The Elite 3 tires for the GL1500 Goldwing are BIAS-PLY and you should NEVER run a bias ply tire on a bike that was designed for the use of radial tires.
The other thing you should never do is to mix using a bias ply tire (front or rear) and a radial tire (front or rear), as the difference in sidewall stiffness between the two types can cause bad handling characteristics (I've personally seen the results on a GL1800 Goldwing what happens when you mix the types of tires).

Oh man, I'm feeling a whole lot better now. It doesn't sound quite so bad if you look at it as being only about 4 cents per mile.

I am going darkside......spoke with Dunlop rep at bike show last weekend, denies any issue with the E3's, told me to callibrate my tire guages....yes I use 3 different ones. I have riden 2 fronts out with a band in the center, I am on my fourth rear and all have cupped! Only problem is not many choices for mc tire with the weight rating for tourers.

interesting you said that.. cause on my 2011 vision in less than 2500 miles my rear tire cupped!!! and i have been checking air pressure.. my 08 vision didnt cup that quick... i noticed it on the 11 when i was washing it. there has to be something up wih their tires in order for a rear tire to cup in LESS than 2500 miles..

When I bought my E3s from Bike Bandit last year, I also got another 10% off with my AMA membership. Just confirmed that they still honor the AMA membership. Still only makes it $349.70 shipped via ground, but with fluctuating prices, it might be beneficial later.

Here's what a nearby (in the U.S.) Victory dealer just quoted me:
"I have the E'3s in stock. The price has changed but I try to buy my tires in large volume and pass the savings on. 612.00 Installed .That's up 111.00 from two years ago."

Or as I see it, they are charging me $250+ to install them ... does this sound right ???

yes, and no. On the bike, they will charge you the hourly rate by the book time. I think the time is 3 hours, so that comes out to about $85 an hour. Maybe someone else will give you a better answer. I have a place I can take my wheel off the bike and they charge $40 to change out the tire, and I bring the tire also.

Thanks, Chris, Will. My wrenching days are LONG over with. My Dealer does EVERYTHING and my bike is PERFECT. It's just my wallet that's hurting ...

And the odd heart attack. No point in aggravating that by putting a wrench on something that weighs a thousand pounds - I'd rather spend my time riding. And my Dealer always gives me a new VV to ride while he's doing the wrenching. Takes a little of the pain out of my wallet, and I get to be glad I don't just buy a new VV that's not much better than my OLD one!

perhaps you could do some negotiations with the dealer on the labor cost, perhaps a little pasteries for the staff or something every so often. Just kicking an idea around, though he's not ripping you off, it is a relatively easy task that the whole op can be done in an hour by an experienced tech. But the book is what they bill by.

My dealer wanted somewhere north of $600 + tax for both installed last year. When I brought up the prices that I found on the Internet, they said my prices were below their cost for the tires. I believe most of the dealers source their tires from a local distributor, and unfortunately they just don't have the buying power of these large Internet companies.

This is what my U.S. guy says: " I charge $80 per tire mounted and balanced, You also have to add sales tax.
We charge $120 per tire for carry in (meaning tires supplied by customer). Remember all the the warranty and liability lies on the dealer that installs the tires. Just trying to make a livivng not a killing . "

BTW - My Canuck dealer wants $1,000+ which is why I'm looking south ... annoys me - I can buy the tires myself here from U.S. dealers for $45 more in shipping costs.

I went to several of the aforementioned websites for E3 pricing and found their current pricing well above what was listed in the beginning of this thread not a month and a half ago. DK Wants $220, not the $160 something posted above. What gives? Did you have to actually ask for some sort of discount?

It looks like they've all raised their prices back up. I'm going to wait a week or two and see if anyone runs them on sale again. If I find a sale price I'll post it.

Prices run in cycles, start checking about a month before you need tires.

I am sitting at the dealer now in St Pete Florida. I went to put air in my rear tire to find it completely bald. Dealer quoted me $212. That's 3 bucks cheaper than cycled gear. Thought it was a mistake. The dealer wanted like $280 last time. They made up the difference by pointing out my front pads were just about on metal. Let them do it since I'm here.

And my bike is NEW again !!! Handles like a dream. Only problem is getting it off the side-stand - bike is 'taller' and requires more ooommph - which is getting harder with each birthday ...

Word to the wise when ordering on line read the spec sheet to make sure you are getting a radial or what ever your ordering don't go by the pitcher.

Second check tires once a month and twice a month when we get into 90's plus. Do not use a pencil gauge or a those little LED gadget ones. Spend the money and buy a real gauge. Check it with your shock pump and if its off take it back.

Its up to you to keep tires round

Called my local Vic dealer and they wanted almost $600 for a set of E3. Plus $72 for mount and balance. I explained that I can get them for $355 including shipping from several places on the net. I told the guy I would prefer to buy local and would pay a few extra dollars to help the local guy, but I could not pay double. I begged him for a discount. He asked the manager and the answer was no. He said, however, bring in whatever tires I buy and they will mount and balance for the same price.

I received the tires and called a nearby HD shop for mount and balance. The guy said they don't work on other bikes. I explained that I have the wheels off the bike and I only need tires mounted to the wheels and balanced. He said again, "we don't touch other bikes". So, I drove an hour to the Vic shop and they did the mount/balance for $72. I asked if they would mount tires on HD bikes. They said, "Sure, it doesn't matter what bike it is when it comes to tire changing".

I have been looking at heated gear. I bought a set while I waited for the Vic mechanic to change my tires. The HD dealer lost out on a $400 sale (plus an hr shop rate for tire change). I wish my Vic dealer could lower tires prices because I would have much rather given him the whole $827 I spent rather than only $472 ($72 tire change plus $400 heated gear).

Why are dealer tire prices so high?

Send a copy to the HD dealership owner and remind them that times are tough and a "profit" is a profit......

Are you sure they are actually E3 radials, and not D207s ?

Do you have a link?

When I did a search, I came up with this site --> http://www.directlineparts.com/byBrand.asp

front E3=169.99, rear E3=219.99

Did you guys know that the CCT's tire sizes are exactly the same as the GL1800 Goldwing. I know, I've had 6 of them. This opens up your choices of brands. I've tried Metzeler 880's, Avon Cobras, Bridgestones, Dunlop 250 series, and the Elite 3's. Metzelers handled great and were fairly long lasting at 14K miles. The Avon's come in second, followed by the stones, and my last choice would be the Dunflops.

I can't wait to use up these ()^*(P%$% Dunlops and get some real tires on my 13 CCT.

Just my 2 cents worth. Hope to help someone.......

Just paid $249.00 for my rear tire (180/60R16) last night at my local dealer here in San Diego. Ran over a screw somewhere, and only had 6k miles on it.

The last few tires I've bought through Jake Wilson-An E3 180/60 R16 is going for $205 there with free shipping. I now have Avon Cobras front & back on the Vision-a new Cobra the same size was $192.
A set of Dunlop E3's $350 & a set of Cobras $353-best prices I could find-Brian

I just went to directlineparts.com, and order front and rear for $309 with free shipping. I'm happy with that, and cycle gear will mount and balance for $40 per tire. I'll call around some more and see what some of the other local shops will charge me to do it.

Just purchased a front Dunlop E3 yesterday. Prices have indeed gone up, but not terribly. RockyMountainATVmc.com had the best prices at $154 + free shipping & no tax. Shipped same day. Should be here tomorrow. So far, I'm extremely pleased with their service. A couple things; rim strip & valve stems coming from a different location and should arrive 2 days later. Still not bad.

Also purchased an E3 rear for a buddy at the same time... $206.

Jake Wilson is where I got my last few sets 154 for the front free shipping also-I went with the Avon Cobras on the Vision and got a nail in the back tire that had about 7,000 miles on it so I never got to fully evaluate it-was starting to show some scalloping on the sides and a narrow flat band down the middle-replaced with an E3 on the road.

I bought one of the new multi compound (rear) E3s yesterday to replace a new car tire (don't ask). I paid $260 from the dealer. Probably about the same (including shipping) online. Still scuffing it in so I can't comment on performance. I hope it lasts the advertised 20k miles.

getting ready to order one myself, I might do it at the dealer this time, the one 3 hours away that will do it from the bike for a mere $40 or so.

Metzelers does not make a tire for the Vision, CC, CCT, or CR.

You can verify that by going to their website or calling them.  They won't even hesitate to tell you NO.

The Honda Goldwing has virtually the same curb weight as the Vision Tour.  The Honda has a carry weight of around 406 pounds while the Visions carry weight is 98 pounds higher. The Goldwing can ride on tires with less carry weight (GVWR=1316) and stay in spec.  That does NOT mean the Vision can while still maintaining it's much higher GVWR=1414).

I've averaged over 14,000 miles on every set of standard E3's I have had mounted to SCREAM.  Each set was replaced before any wear bars were in contact with the road.

Spend more money on a really accurate pressure gauge and you'll spend less on tires.  You can also start using your front brake more, a lot more, than your rear brake which will increase the amount of miles you get on each set of tires.

The new E3 MT (Multi-Tread) tires are now available and I highly recommend them for increased mileage and less singing and more grip in the turns.  They require 41 PSI in the front and rear.

The E3's advertised in the link provided above are most likely the old stock of standard E3's.  I would call them to make sure that you are getting the new MT versions of both the front and rear tires.

I presently have 11,000 miles on my rear E3 MT and it has yet to sing in the turns and I can guarantee that I'll get at least 4,000 more miles out of it before it hits the wear bars.  The tire looks brand new.

I would never mount a tire on my motorcycle when the manufacturer of the tire says it doesn't fit.

I also would never mount a bias ply tire on my Vision.

We had a flat rear tire travelling through Lincoln, Nebraska last year, and Star City Motorsports, a Victory dealer, tapped us for $268.99 plus $102 in labor. Frontier Harley-Davidson stored our bike for free for two days over a holiday weekend, and they trailered our bike to the dealership for free. I hate to say this, but the Harley dealership treated us very well, and we didn't spend a dime there. The Victory dealer couldn't wait to take our money and kick us out the door!

Thank You Frontier Harley of Lincoln, Nebraska!

Ouch! That sounds painful. I haven't found a Victory dealer either I can say I'm truly happy with. Also, it has been my experience that pricing varies significantly among the different Victory dealers and I have seen costs vary for the purchase and installation of tires by as much as 200 dollars. I just ordered a Dunlop E3 180/60-16HR MT from Dennis Kirk for $208, best price I found. Also have a new rear brake rotor in the mail to replace mine that has way to much play at the rivets. I had two flats while touring last year- one in Montana that plugged and rode to Kalispell on & the Victory dealer there didn't have a tire? Had to use the Yamaha dealer down the street to get gouged. That tire took a nail in BFE WY and I plugged it on the roadside and now have several thousand miles on it & figured I'd go ahead & replace it for this years touring season- it's -14 this morning so it's a good time to go through the bike in a warm garage.

If you take your rear wheel in (off the bike) to get the tire changed out; is it advisable to remove the rear sprocket first; or is it not an issue, for removing and replacing the tire?

I take no thought what the dealer will get out of it when I need something done, including when I need tires. I know of one dealer out of 4 dealers within a 3 hour ride that will do the whole job cheaper than if I got the tires off the internet and have my local dealer mount. The only problem is, they are 3 hours away, and that's a good problem. The other dealers out-price themselves by charging the top retail price, but that tells me they don't want to do tires. We all can save a few dollars by pulling the wheels ourselves and taking them to a dealer. If not, I would not complain if I had no other choice than pay the higher price if I want to ride. Complaining will not make them change their mind, and they are not wrong because they charge the upper end of the retail price.

If you take your rear wheel in (off the bike) to get the tire changed out; is it advisable to remove the rear sprocket first; or is it not an issue, for removing and replacing the tire?

No, it's not necessary.

I take most of you "do it yourselfers" have the gear to remove tire from rim/replace and balance the tire yourselves? Anybody have the self-adjusting ballancers? I have found here locally in Arizona the going shop rate for installation at authorized Vic repair shop is roughly 78 bucks/tire if bought elsewhere. The rate is 40 bucks/tire if you bring just the rim/tire in off the bike. I'm not a snob by any means, but I figure that I won't bother with all that if I wind up saving about 38 bucks/tire if I go through the trouble of removing them myself. The front is straight forward, but the rear looks like a PIA.

Here locally, if you purchase the tires through both shops I mentioned the installation is "free" as they put it, but the tires are marked up. This is through both Victory of Mesa and Arizona Victory in Tucson. I call both to see which one has the better deal when time to change out plus they will price match most of the time on tires. I got a quote today for 280 for the front and 315 for the rear out the door. It has also been my experience that if you just bring the rim/tire in a lot of places like to nickel and dime you, shop fees, environmental fees, disposal fees, KY jelly fees, and there you have it.

224 for the rear plus the 78 is 302 and 154 for the front plus labor is 232 bucks. At least at my neck of the woods it makes absolute sense to take the front tire in, but would only be saving about 13 bucks for the rear, which does not make much sense to hassle with. I'm sure the shops will periodically get online and price shop tires and adjust accordingly. Vlad.

Wow! That's steep, I've gotten used to paying around $23, they charged me the same when I went darkside.
I'm still too cheap th let them take $80 for doing the entire job.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I am accident prone and would not be a happy camper scarring a rim or worse, but the way shop prices are going and knowing for a fact I will continue riding as long as my health permits it would be a worthwhile deal to buy the gear needed to replace the tires myself. Unfortunately, Im not a fan of Harbor Freight since all the stuff I bought from them in the past was absolute junk.

Watch out for those damned screws... they seem particularly attracted to new tires.

I usually roll with whatever is cheaper and stick with the E3s or Avon Cobras. JP cycle currently has the AVON Cobras on sale with free shipping. It has been my experience the E3 is usually more money. The Cobras all around handle better from my end, but I can usually squeeze about 3000 miles more out of the E3s. Your call, but I would suggest you give the Avons a shot, especially since they are on sale currently. Vlad.
