LOL....according to this I've been putting it on exactly the way he says not to for years! Somewhere along the line, I guess I thought or learned that dielectric grease helps with connectivity while keeping all the crude and gradu out.

I apply a light coating of the dielectric grease to the boot AND terminals. I have had zero problems since doing so. I use the grease on the terminal to prevent corrosion. I've had to replace ignition cables in the past because the terminal had attached itself permanently to the plug.
A little bit goes a long way. The idea is to seal against air. no air, no corrosion.

I never thought it helped the connection, only protected it from the elements and corrosion. As captain obvious states, it's an insulator.
