Just bought a new K&N filter for my 2011 Cross Roads. The manual says to check the air filter often. So I went to the user manual and it says that I have to remove the gas tank and seat. WTF!!!!!!! Who in the hell engineered this nightmare? They need a good ass kicking and be fired and never let near a bike again!

This is my opinion, and not that of the staff & management!

Get over it Commander. The Cross bikes are not the only ones to have the air filter under the tank. After you do it once it's no big deal. Just be careful pulling the tank so you don't break anything.

If you have a K&N you only need to look at it every 10,000 miles or so..............maybe less.

Where did you find a K&N filter for the XR? The website still shows them as not available yet.

Any and all bikes with engineering worth a s#!t have a downdraft carb/efi system... which puts the air filter on top of the motor... a.k.a. UNDER THE TANK! Pop off your side covers, take out the 2 bolts for the seat and the 2 for the tank. you'll be at the air filter in 3 minutes... you can handle it I'll bet!

Its like whitie says.
I just cleaned my stage 1 filter yesterday and only took about 3 minutes to get it out.
Don't need to pull the tank right off.
Remove bolts and slide it back.
Put a can under the tank to hold it up and remove the screws for the filter.

Just 1 peice of advise, cover the hole in the frame at the back of the tank.
when I did this the first time to wire my running lights had a hell of a time
trying to recover 1 of the rubber grommets for the tank that fell in the hole.
