Jasper, MO | The battery in my Sport Cruiser finally died. The SC has been in semi-retirement ever since we got our Vision, but I still like to ride it occasionally, and get it out now and then. The battery was starting the bike just fine up until a couple of days ago. It seemed like it had been forever since I put a battery in the old girl.
I checked, cleaned and tightened all the connections to no avail. The battery showed a full charge according to the battery charger, and 12.86 volts with the key off and charger removed. However, the voltage dropped to 5.4 volts (across the terminals) as soon as the key was turned on, then returned to 12.4 volts with the key off, then read 4.8 volts when the key was turned on again. Time for a new battery.
When I pulled the old battery out and cleaned the grime off, I found the activation date was January of 2007. I got 7 years and 7 months on the Made-In-The- USA Yuasa YTX20L-BS.

Central Maryland | Yuasa is a common power-sport battery. And certainly ANY battery can be a crap shoot. Occasionally one gets a short lived one; and will damn the entire line.
I've heard more good than bad about Yuasa batteries; and as we all know; you will normally hear more negative criticisms of a product; than a favorable one.
7 years is what I WOULD expect from any motorcycle battery; as long as it is maintained and not abused or neglected.
