Being nearly 6ft tall the top of the windshield falls right in my vision line. When down it's a problem too. It seamed for me approximately three (3) inches of windshield needed to come off. Every place online that sells windshields is either clear, black, to grey tinted.

I decided to cut my windshield down to size, polish it, tint it to deep black yet be see thru for night riding, and clear it. Came out nearly perfect.

Leave it to the Iceman to come up with yet another cool mod. I like your Pro results.

Iceman,
What were your steps?
What did you use as a guide?
Tips for a clean cut?
How'd you polish the edge?

Had the same problem with the stock windshield being in my line of sight and the optional short shield was too short. cut it so there was less taper on the sides. Curious, how did you tint the plexi. have you done this before? how does it hold up to plexi polishes?

first used a cut off wheel and hot knife approach to make the cut off. sorta wing it at about 3 inches off.

Then used a DA sander (dual action air) and about 80 grit to form the edge or lip back into roundness to match rest.

Used too grit and a scratch brite green pad on the center area. That's why it looks white.

Used a drop of black in some clear to spray the inside to the darkness desired.

Used clear on the outside to fill in all the scratches etc.

now dry can clean it with Honda spray, plexus, water etc. it's paint. ITS JUST THINNNN..

I've cut off quite a few windshields. How I do it is:

First, IMPORTANT!!! tape up both sides of the top 1/2 of the windshield with blue masking tape so it does not get scratched. Sometimes I tape the whole windshield...I'm kind-of a klutz.

Trace the outline of the top of the windshield on a piece of thin cardboard (you know the stuff that we all have around the shop to make patterns), then cut the top of the cardboard, lay it on the windshield down a couple of inches (or whatever you are shooting for) and trace the curve onto the tape.

To cut it, I use a jigsaw with a fine blade. Take your time, but keep CONSTANT pressure on the blade, don't stop and start. (Another set of hands really help here). If you did a good job, all you will have to do is use some fine sandpaper to smooth out the edge, if not you might have to use a file or rougher sandpaper to smooth the edge. After sanding, pull off the tape.

Once you have sanded it smooth, the edge will be kind-of light gray. If you want it smoother and more of a dark gray, you can use a small propane torch and pass it back and forth side to side over the edge and it will "melt" the edge to look like glass. Be careful though, if you leave the flame on the edge an instant too long the layers of the windshield will start to bubble. At first, just quickly pass it over the edge until you get the hang of it.

I'm no pro...so you can do it, too. Not that hard.

Good Luck!
