Leaving for 4 Corners this weekend. Yup, right in the middle of the Monsoon season. Being from Las Vegas, NV, I haven't had that much experience riding in the rain. Since motorcycles don't have windshield wipers..yet. I was wondering if this Rain X stuff is good as the commercials say and is it ok to use on Victory windshields? It contains 3 different types of alcohols.

Never want to use Rain-X on plastic !!!

Basically Rain-X is a silicone oil that uses an acidic solution, and they top it off with a bit of alcohol. The acid etches into glass so the silicone beads the water, the alcohol is just an evaporative carrier for the silicone and acid.

The problem with using it on plastic is that it has a micro-coating on the plastic that helps protect it from u.v. rays and the enviroment. The acid in the Rain-X eats into this coating and eventually the plastic will crack/haze/yellow over time.

A lot of people swear by Plexus. And some folks use Pledge. As a matter of fact ask a person who owns an airplane what they use on thier plastic windshields and you will get a lot of "Pledge" answers

Rain-X will destroy your windshield and the surrounding plastics etc...It is crap!!! Do not use it...This junk should be taken off the market in my opinion..It will also ruin the rubber on car wiper blades and anything around it that is not glass...Stick with Plexus or Pledge which works wonders and does not ruin your bikes windshield......Good Luck on the trip...

I've been a Pledge user for the last 7 years.

There are different kinds of Pledge.

I use "Multi Surface" in the can at home and the "wipes" on trips.

Thanks people for your input. I put pledge on the windshield this morning and splashed some water on it. It seems to have the effect I was looking for. I'll let you know how it works out when I return. Thanks again.

I think the worse part of riding in the rain is the glasses or shield(my Scorpion helmet has one that flips down when needed) fogging up. Like the scuba divers do, a little spit rubbed on the inside works wonders.
