Hooo Weee there are alot of complaints on the HD forums concerning 2014 waterheads puking antifreeze after shutdown..............I am surprised, Harley has been making fully water cooled V-Rods for 11 years and never heard of any similar problems there. Maybe in trying to hide everything, they made the actual radiators and overflow catch tank too small.

Fascinating! I'm not a big fan of putting water cool on a motorcycle, just another issue to contend with. But, it's like this, I would hope they would not have under engineered it just so they could hide it. It is what it is. I just don't understand why they didn't go Victory's route and put oil through the heads...

If you don't use h-d antifreeze your motor will lock up on a v-rod

I guess you can use Honda anti-freeze also.  The problem is that automotive antifreeze has silicate (?) which is detrimental to the set-up motorcycles have.  So the antifreeze must be silicate free, which basically only the bike manufacturer has mades, so you won't buy it at autozone.

Not true. Not all automobile antifreeze has silicates in it. Prestone 50/50 is good to go with motorcycle water cooled systems. I've run it in my Triumph Rocket for years.

That's good to know. I searched for an alternative when I had my Gold Wing and found none at that time, 6 years ago. I was stuck getting it from the dealer at some outrages price in a quart bottom. Maybe I didn't know where to look, but it is still important to note: NO SILICATES, PLEASE!

I posted this on Facebook and you shoulda seen the "Haters" come out. "It's piece of junk", "It's a piece of shit", "Yuppy sell out bike", and "aircooled to the end". What these fellas don't realize is Harley will get this problem fixed and just keep moving on. The Motor Co. like all large companies care less about their customers that are 45-60 years old than their younger customer base, they makes sales plans for things 20 years down the road. They are looking at the projected sales to people that are 25-30 now and will buy 4 to 5 more units over their lifetime.
So if you're a "For LIfe" Harley person then you still have a choice of aircooled only engines for now but progress will move on and water cooling will be the future probably for all large displacement motorcycle engines, because people want more power and as we know big twins make too much heat as they grow in size and power output.

Me too, for now. But I am in the 45-60 age group...........At 56 I hope I can still ride heavy tourers till I'm 70. We'll see on that one. I like bigtwins, I came from a Harley background. As far as AC bigtwins: I've owned 8 Harleys and 2 Visions.
I'll also make up my mind as newer bikes with different engine combinations come out. I'm not into rebuilding worn out motorcycles like I was in my youth ( Not enough time ). For now the Vision is the best bike (by far) for me.............

Depending on what it is, it's unlikely I'll do a major repair on the Vision's engine. So far ZERO leaks, and still running strong. I'll debate also, when it is time for a clutch, whether I'll put one in. When the clutch is replaced, I believe that will put stress on other components and there will be another failure behind. I do carry the philosophy though of "drive 'er until she blows...!!!"

varyder, the way you've been putting on the miles and lets assume 200,000 miles before the clutch gives up. By then the 2016 models may be right around the corner. Hmmm there maybe some other choices that fit your bill. Hey the Vision might have a slighly modified 112 inch engine by then AND upgraded electronics........

If I can get the ride comfort and confidence that I get on the Vision on another bike, I will change up. For whatever the reasons the Vision has always fit my bill. I went from a wobbly '84 GL1200, being timid everytime I rode, to a pro (so-so) when I hopped on the Vision. Night and day, I felt like I had been riding all my life. Jumping on the Indian took me back to that slightly lower confidence feel before the Vision. I handled it well, had plenty of confidence, but just not the same as the Vision. Just me, I'm sure. So, I suspect if the Visions are no longer on the assembly line I'll find one that has tender loving care that's been waiting for me.

Well looks like Harley dropped the next generation bombshell today. An entry level bike that has no pushrods and is fully watercooled. Said to be targeted at the emerging markets oveseas and enrty level riders here. 500cc and 750cc models. Don't know the price yet.........

It looks like $6700 for the 500cc and $7500 for the 750cc. Made in both Kansas City (for USA consumption) and in India for overseas sales. http://www.latimes.com/business/autos/la-fi-mo-autos-harley-davidso...
