Speeding ticket! coming home from work today I decided to blow out the carbon in my mufflers. I was on a 4 lane bypass rd. after I hit about 100mph I was slowing down topping a hill and there he was, oncoming. well he crossed the median and fell in behind me. well the mirrors being as they are, I had to keep leaning over to look for blue lights, and there they were. He said "I clocked you doing 80 in a 55" I said 80! I think he respected the fact I was wearing leathers and a helmet. He was very nice and wrote me up for 56 in a 55. My first ticket in 20some years, and my first on mc. Speeding is addictive, got to get it under control.......

Banjodan,

Everytime I got a ticket in a car, the BMV sent me a letter that had to be signed by my insurance company. Of course my rate went up each time. I wonder how much the rate would increase with a ticket on a motorcycle. Could you keep us informed of how this plays out with your insurance company? Thanks.

I got my first speeding ticket in 40 years while riding the SPCSHP thru an Indian reserve down in Washington St. 2 years ago.

The sneaky bastage wrote me up, and said "If you pay the fine ($140) within 14 days, the ticket will not be 'on your record' ... "

It was just a goddamned 'money maker' for the Tribe. I paid it, and it never got on my record (U.S. and Canada have agreements on this).

As an aside - I speed mostly ALL the time. Just not where you shouldn't. In this case I was on a good 4-lane divided highway with NO other traffic around - came over a hump on a railway overpass - and the bastage was right there - where you couldn't see him. No good reason - just outright THEFT.

So you were riding your Vision over the speed limit; came over a hump on a railway overpass; and got clocked and wrote up for it? And that is thieving?

How is that thieving? You bought it; and paid for it; you crazy old Canuck. :-)

I put this on my Vision after I got pinched. It has optional laser jammers. The FCC hasn't regulated light frequencies yet.

When they get you going that much over and want to give you a break they write you for 8 or 9 over. 1 mph should be easy to beat in court. Our sheriff's SOP do not allow a vehicle stop solely for speeding if under 5 MPH over the limit.

Any citation is a an 'offer to contract' a retired judge has said if you get a citation: according to the Federal Truth in Lending Act, any party to a contract can rescind the offer to contract, within 3 business days by writing or typing across the citation "I do not accept this offer to contract. I do not consent to these proceedings.' Sign your name in blue ink, not black in front of a Notary. Under your signature type or write: Without Prejudice, UCC 1-308. Serve the cancelled citation back to the clerk, return receipt requested along with a Certificate of Service. This kills the citation, removes your consent and removes the jurisdiction of the court all at the same time. Of course keep a copy of the citation and the Certificate of Service and the USPS documents for your records. http://lucas2012infos.wordpress.com/2012/05/25/judge-dale-retired-t...

the officer made a note on side edge of ticket 80/55 I guess to let the magistrate know what really happened, in case I argue?

Just pay the fine, the cops are just doing their job, if they were not their and someone ran into you drunk or at a high rate of speed, the first thing you would ask is, where were all the cops to stop that guy ? This was not pointed at the OP, just a general shot gun blast, We all know that some day we will get a ticket for speeding, that is just the way we ride our bikes. If you don't want to pay the fine or have your insurance go up, don't break the law.

Let's see. You gamble at speeding and blame the cop when you get a ticket?
When you go to the casino and loose do you ask for you money back?

In truth is this your first ticket or the first time you got caught?

My Mom is 83 years old and has never had even a parking ticket. Tough record to beat.

Does anyone know or has anyone tried this form of defense?

Let me make this clear.....
I didn't complain or gripe about the ticket or officer.....I gladly paid my 81$ ticket today. I was guilty and I know mercy when I see it.

I normally ride 4-5 MPH over the speed limit.
Set the cruise and forget-about-it.

But, if you ask some of the guys that have ridden with me, they'll tell you wild stories of how I go over 100 MPH at least once every long ride.
One of them might tell you about me keeping up with a Lamborghini for about 10 miles, well in excess of 100 MPH.

LIES I tell you, LIES.

When they catch me, I keep my mouth shut and pay the fine.
