If you are referring to a get-back whip, I do not. I think they are more reserved for the club members. If someone was to start swinging one at my vehicle, they might find themselves under my wheels.

More of a fashion accessory.

One of my club brothers had them for sale in out club colors. Slipped right off the end of my lever. The HD has a much larger ball on the end.
If I want one (and I do) I'll have to have it made for me with a different clasp.

I have a 28" one green and black. If you get one you need a leather hasp thingy as a filler so it will stay on.

I let the fag slappers and fringe go...... But this is over the top funny.
Just sayin, all in fun. Those things belong in the bedroom, not on a bike !!

I could have really used on today. I had a car decide he wanted to use my lane at 70 MPH while I had no way out but to hit my brakes. It would have been nice to give him something to remember about forcing a bike off the road.

I'm seriously trying to find some history on the get-backs. I keep coming to the same old lame explanation that they were used in the past "for emergencies", and now present for decoration mostly. I'm thinking this is a sales pitch and nothing more. I've never found any old school biker pictures that have them, nor do I remember ever seeing any on a bike until a few years ago. If anyone could shed some light on this subject or have some very old biker pictures with one hanging, I'd appreciate it.

I know in some of the old biker movies there would usually be one dude who would have a chain on them and use to smack windshields, but that's about it.

I get your point, but I'd like to know a little real motorcycle history on this. I'm calling foul and get-back whips are a recent fad that's being purported as being "old school" as a marketing ploy. While I do believe there have been various "emergency" tools used by bikers, which very well could have been similar to the whips as inventive as the users. Unless someone have constructive input, I put this to rest.

Ive been riding since 1974, started on a 1973 superglide, since then owned 8 other Harleys till 2010 when I started my Victory thing. I never saw any on these whips hanging off handlebars in the old days. Some people did carry 1" ball bearings though. much easier to use...........Go right through a windshield............

Now Steve...

Thanks for that input. I'm believing more strongly that the "old school" is just marketing tactics.

I think this is not legal in some states. I remember reading that it was considered a weapon . I read to much to remember where.

I think some of this started with those stupid (NOT reality) shows like "The Devils Ride".......... When I was young ( Very Young ) like 17 through 21, I saw alot of Outlaws 1%ers and a few Hells Angels 1%ers and none of those guys had whips hanging from their bikes........

I know there is something written in the laws that make the whips illegal, so that would mean just having them you're breaking the law. What difference would it make if it was hanging off the motorcycle, and then again, what would make it illegal if they are legal in a different form. I would guess if someone was splitting hairs and trying to make a point, anything could be illegal to carry. Truck drivers often carry tire thumpers, which is a bat, or you have a tire iron in your car, used many times as a weapon. If you want to hang a few leather strands off your bike, as long as it doesn't interfere with the operation, what's the problem.

But as far as any historical significant, as is with the likes of fringe and bells, I think there is none.

BTW, there is no such thing as reality TV.  Stick a camera in anyones face and they are no longer "real".  Besides, they would be much more boring than they are if it was real.  The only exception is the drunks on Cops, because they don't know they are being filmed, they don't know anything...

I never knew what the "get backs" were for until now . I had an idea of their intended purpose but now I know for sure. Don't need or want one.

people can say they are hanging for that reason, but I call bunk on that too. You have to be really talented to take your throttle hand and smack a windshield and hope the person doesn't step up the game on you. Somebody witnessed the other day where a cage upset a crouch rocket dude and he just had to kick the door of the door of the car. He sent himself into the ditch on doing that stunt.

I'm going for decorative purposes only. The 3' foot of 2" chain I have wrapped around my chest will take care of what I need to do...

I have one. It's red & black, about 24" long and I've had it since the '70s when I hung around the MC that rules Florida. I never had the real balls to prospect that group 'cuz they were just too violent and didn't respect life.
I don't 'display' it 'cuz of the small balls syndrome, but it goes with me everywhere I ride JIC.

Chris, PM me if you want more details - I have seen these things in action and it ain't pretty. CHL
